I’m speaking rectangle necklace

“I’m speaking.” My 11 year old daughter was watching the 2020 VP debates when she heard Kamala Harris say this to VP Pence who was interrupting her. My daughter looked at me and said, "SHE could be our next VP?!" She watched a woman standing up for herself amidst disrespectful interruptions. It’s a simple phrase, but unfortunately it is necessary for women to use this phrase to stop interruptions. A recent study (email me if you want citations) shows that male Supreme Court justices interrupt female SC justices 3 times more often than the reverse. And female SC justices are interrupted by male ATTORNEYS 3 times more often than male SC justices are. Other research is varied, but among coed play dates where 4 year olds know each other, boys interrupt girls 3 times more often. The interruptions increase as the number of boys in a group increases. As a mom, I’m teaching my daughter (the fantastic Jane Ellen) to speak up and be heard. Stop the interruptions and let’s listen to what each other is saying.

These darling charms are suspended on either silk eco-friendly cord (choose navy, light blue, orange, turquoise, or purple) or leather (hot pink, green, brown, red, or turquoise). The USA made deer hide leather is harvested from Fish & Wildlife Services' scheduled thinning in regions of deer overpopulation. It's good to be responsible with your findings :)

Encapsulated Bee silver necklace

The Bug Collection

There are not many creatures in nature who are essential to the survival of our species and agriculture, but bees are. With so many diminishing bee populations, what better way to celebrate their vital role in our ecosystem than a beautiful necklace that is bound to spark questions. Dying bees outside my studio a few years ago inspired the entire Encapsulated Series. Perhaps the bees had just reached the end of their short lives, but I was struck by the intricate beauty of the bees scattered around under a Vitex tree. Instead of just sweeping them aside, I decided to create a special case for them and encapsulate their beauty forever in resin. You can read more about how to save our bees by taking a look at some non-profits involved in raising awareness about our vanishing bees including the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign, Asheville's Honey Bee Health Improvement Project, and Avaaz. 

The bee pendant is one of our smaller pieces in the series and hangs from a 28" chain. The bee pendant itself is 1" in diameter and is 1/2" deep. Frozen in resin and time, its beauty can be appreciated and admired. A friend in Atlanta has bees in her organic garden, and I asked her to save the bees that die of natural causes. She laughed, "I've never been asked that before!" I love being able to celebrate this beautiful creature with a one of a kind necklace. This bee was collected from our organic garden in Atlanta, GA. The model is wearing another necklace from this collection. 

The Encapsulated Collection
You can’t capture time but you can capture memories. The precious creature encapsulated in the clear resin of this necklace is a reminder of moments that have come and gone -- intricate, interconnected and irreplaceable. The bugs are carefully collected and set in a handsmithed Argentium silver oval case and captured by clear resin so each pendant is unique and different. These are truly one of a kind.
